Terms of Service
Last updated: [to be confirmed]
These terms cover the NC Website Engine website, the private website previews we make, and our Website Care plan. NC Website Engine is run by [to be confirmed], [to be confirmed] (“we”, “us”). By claiming a preview, paying for Website Care, or using our website, you agree to these terms.
1. Private previews
- We sometimes build a free first version of a website for a North Carolina business, using public business details such as its name, address, phone number and type of work.
- A preview is private. Only someone with the link can see it, and it tells search engines not to list it.
- A preview is a design sample. It isn't connected to or approved by the business until the business claims it.
- If any detail is wrong, the business can correct it on the preview page using the claim code we sent.
- If you don't want the preview, choose “Not for me” on the preview page, or reply to our email. We take the preview down and stop contacting the business by email and by post.
- A preview costs nothing and creates no obligation.
2. Website Care
Website Care costs $200 a month, month to month, with no build fee. It includes:
- Your website, hosted at our address (for example ncwebsiteengine.com/site/your-business).
- Hosting and maintenance: we keep the site running, secure and working on phones.
- One content update a month: for example new services, hours, an announcement or a new photo. You submit it in your customer portal, review the exact change, and it goes live only after you approve it. Unused updates don't carry over to the next month.
Nothing goes live without your approval. Before your site is published, you confirm your business details and approve the finished site.
3. Payment
- Payments are handled by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number.
- You're charged $200 when you sign up and then every month on the same date, until you cancel.
- If a payment fails, you have 7 days to update your card in the customer portal. After that, your site is taken offline until the payment goes through, and then it comes back automatically.
- We'll give you at least 30 days' notice by email before any price change.
4. Cancelling
- You can cancel at any time in your customer portal. There are no cancellation fees.
- Cancelling stops future charges. Your website is taken offline when the subscription ends.
- We don't refund partial months.
- If you ask within 30 days of cancelling, we'll send you a copy of your text and photos.
5. Your content
- You own your business information, text, logos and photos.
- You let us use them to build, host and show your website, and to make the changes you approve.
- When you upload a photo, you confirm you own it or have permission to publish it.
- You're responsible for making sure your business details are accurate and lawful. This includes your licences, prices and any claims about your services.
- We may refuse or remove content that is unlawful, misleading, infringes someone else's rights, or would harm our service.
6. Our work
The website design, templates, layout and software are ours. You may use them only for your website while your Website Care plan is active.
7. Using the service
Please don't use our service to break the law, send spam, collect other people's data without permission, harm the service or its security, or pretend to be another business.
8. Availability
- We work to keep your website online and check it regularly.
- We can't promise it will never be down. Hosting providers, internet outages and maintenance can sometimes cause short interruptions.
9. Limits of our responsibility
- We provide the service “as is”. We don't promise any particular number of visitors, calls, search rankings or sales.
- To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect losses such as lost profits or lost business.
- Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the [to be confirmed] months before the claim.
10. Ending the service
- We may suspend or end the service if you break these terms, don't pay, or use the service in a way that puts others at risk.
- Unless it's urgent or required by law, we'll tell you by email first and give you a chance to fix the problem.
11. Changes to these terms
- If we make an important change, we'll email current customers at least 30 days before it takes effect.
- If you keep using Website Care after that, you accept the new terms.
12. Law
These terms are governed by the laws of North Carolina. Any dispute is handled in the courts of [to be confirmed] County, North Carolina.
